The Virginia Forensics League supports the NFL Virginia District of the NFL and the local, mid-week tournaments in Northern Virginia, NorthEast Virginia, Central Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, and SouthWest Virginia.  This site has all the information you need to navigate membership and participation in VaFL and NFL.

All schools within the state of Virginia are welcomed and encouraged to join the National Forensics League and the Virginia  District.  This website is the central clearinghouse for Forensics in Virginia and here we hope to answer all questions, network our coaches, and highlight the great accomplishments of our teams and students.  But, first, let’s ask the important question….

Why Should I Join the NFL?

There are real benefits to joining the National Forensics League — benefits that speak to students, parents, and school administrators.

First and foremost, the NFL presents a clear and nationally-recognized standard for high school public speaking excellence.  Almost every opportunity for public speaking in any recognized event and venue in any league or invitational gains the student, the coach, and the school speaking points and degrees.  From these points and degrees, a student, coach, and school is able to measure themselves on a regional and national standard.  The NFL provides students and coaches who have labored long and hard the recognition they justly deserve.

Secondly, membership in the NFL provides validation.  College admissions want to see that students are members of national and regional organizations.  School administrators want to see that their teachers and coaches are members of national and regional organizations.  School boards want to see that their schools are members of national and regional organizations.  The NFL allows that validation.

Finally, membership in the NFL provides students the opportunity to compete in the VaFL State Tournament, which is the qualifying tournament for NFL Nationals.  NFL Nationals, held every June in a new and exciting city in the United States, brings together the best students from the best schools from the best districts in the nation to compete in a week-long celebration of student and coach achievement.  If you have ever been to NFL Nationals, you would agree that there are few better opportunities for students and coaches to network and gain recognition for their accomplishments.

This site contains every form and outlines every procedure a coach needs to start a chapter and record points.  When in doubt, always refer to the NFL National Headquarters Website at  www.nflonline.org for more information or call Ripon during Office Hours.
